Preserving The Icebox Picasso
By Wendy Cole
When a preschooler paints a masterpiece, it is usually hung on the family fridge. But eventually the artwork piles up in a box under the bed–or winds up in the dumpster. But Chicago entrepreneur Angela [Shaffer] has launched an ingenious service aimed at preserving children’s creative efforts and eliminating clutter. Her business, Me, My Room and I, takes kids’ artwork or poetry and turns it into collages, murals, wallpaper border or giant stickers. The art is scanned and then imaginatively transformed into custom-made keepsakes and decorations. (…) –By Wendy Cole

“When Z Gallerie opened in Downtown Highland Park, Angela stepped in with open arms and welcomed us to the community. She was there for our Grand Opening and led a tour of the downtown so we could become acclimated with our neighbors. Since our corporate headquarters is in California, we’ve called upon Angela’s marketing advice more than once to understand how we can become involved in the community and maintain a presence on Chicago’s North Shore. We’ve continued a very warm relationship with Angela, she’s a pleasure to work with.”
- Gordon Andahl, Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Z Gallerie

“Angela has managed PR campaigns for our company on multiple occasions with great results. She single-handedly got our little start-up website featured in Elle Decor and in the New York Times! She has an intimate knowledge of the steps to take to contact the editors with the right angle at the right time and we could not recommend her more highly. Additionally, Angela continues to keep us on top of new developments with a cheery positive attitude .”
- AJ Deforest, Owner Pfeifer Studio

“I’ve had a long-standing professional relationship with Angela over the years. I initially brought Angela on board part-time as part of our company’s training and customer service initiative with a major national account. Based on the positive results she achieved and the relationships she forged with the clients, she soon became an integral part of the overall account management and played a major role in growing this account at double-digits annually.
- Shahin Dejy, Co-owner Animated Vision

“Angela is professional and focused. She quickly learned the ins and outs of the printing business and used her creative talents to increase revenues by 86% in the first three years.”
- Miguel R. Mendez, Owner Helium (formerly Formato, Inc.)

“I am grateful for her loyalty and dedication to our organization. Not only was her work exceptionally well done, Angela distinguished herself as confident and positive with a “can do” attitude.”
- Brian Dickie, Former General Director Chicago Opera Theater

“Angela was terrific in listening and understanding the needs of the groups we serve. The qualities of integrity and ethics are paramount in her personality.”
– Sharon A. Danhoff, Former Executive Director Arts Bridge

“Angela is a talented business writer with an unusual ability to quickly synthesize and distill large amounts of disparate information into clean and focused prose.”
